Eirium

The Northeast Continent
Eirium is regarded as the most dangerous and unforgiving continent among the five. It is a land covered in mist and mystery, situated in the northern hemisphere, east of Lyra. The “lost man’s land” has a history riddled with stories of lost explorers and unseen horrors. It seems to call to those who crave the unknown and seek adventure.
Those who answer this lucrative call are met with tempting bargains and irresistible offers of pleasure. Even more alluring are the promises of obtaining ancient relics or blood magic contracts. Those traveling by sea will likely be met by unwelcoming pirates, who, they, themselves, serve as an example of the corruption and erosion spawning from the depths of Eirium.
Most official information on the continent is limited. Coming from either isolated coastal regions or small expeditions sent by Lyra’s Council. The recent expeditions, containing Lyrian scholars and researchers, have been possible thanks to a native frog species found in the northern mountains of Lyra, Bogarts, who have an innate resistance to the Eirium terrain. Each expedition has been invaluable in collecting information on the continent, with each one reporting distinct new species, and more recent ones reporting seemingly at an accelerated pace. Details on the terrain have varied dramatically and have seemed to contradict each other. However, despite these inconsistencies, one constant throughout all the reports is a mysterious, Eirium mist, coined the “Mesmus”.
The Arcane Region
The Mesmus
Even more dangerous than the continent itself, a dense purple mist called The Mesmus fills large areas of Eirium’s lower swamplands and Swaying Meadows, known for its potent hallucinogenic properties and countless obituaries. There are only a few known cases of people entering The Mesmus and surviving to tell the tale. We know that most of the Mesmus harbors unknown and more horrifying creatures than the rest of the continent.
There are rumors among the continents as to the origins of The Mesmus, ranging from Blood Magic to dragon waste. The mist is frequently written about in fantasy and folklore, with a strange commonality among all of the tales - radical transformation.
Although there are many contending explanations, most believe one of only a handful. Scientific scholars from Lyra introduced the theory of The Mesmus being “a product of a botched Blood Magic ritual”, and is now a perpetual breeding ground for deformed creatures and hideous beasts. Recently discovered prehistoric cave walls in the canyons of Valdor depict The New God introducing fungi as a means to dispose of any unwanted “trash”. Dwarven legends describe a now extinct “dark, spotted mushroom” that would release purple mist into the air having a distinct sweet but putrid smell.

Loch-Bay
Loch Bay is a large port city found on the banks of the widest part of the black river. It is a maze of wrecked sloops and wood shacks, built by Sea pirates that wandered up the river and got lost after suffering the effects of the Mesmus. Disoriented by the mesmus the pirates wrecked their ships at the bend in the black river, piling up after more and more pirates followed suit, now a place of intoxication, gambling and criminal activities.
Many inns and taverns can be found in Loch Bay, but the most prominent is the Tox Inn. It is known around the 5 continents as a major hub of shady deals, and a meeting place for pirate bosses and the heads of the criminal underworld. It also has a reputation for being a place where ideas of revolution can be spoken freely without persecution.
